Moto G 2014 Lollipop update rolling out in India, coming to EU soon
While North America has been more or less lucky and has started to receive Android Lollipop updates for the Motorola Moto X and Moto G (2014 editions), the rest of the world hasn’t been so fortunate yet. However, this is about to change. Motorola has already begun rolling out updates for the Moto G 2014 in India, starting with Friday, and the update seems to be coming to the 1st gen Moto G too. While the roll-0ut is generally slow, most users should receive a prompt to update their phones by the end of next week. Also a good side of this firmware update roll-out is that it’s so far proving to be problem-free. In contrast, the Canadian roll-out for the 2nd gen Moto X caused many users to brick their phones, prompting huge customer outrage and eventually forcing Canadian carrier WIND to issue an official apology and offer phone replacements to unfortunate users.
The Indian roll-out seems to be working flawlessly though, however, the Android Lollipop version users are receiving remains the initial 5.0 Lollipop version, with 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 updates already being worked on and prepared by Motorola. It seems Motorola is taking a different route than most smartphone manufacturers, with Samsung working directly on the 5.0.1 version and skipping 5.0 altogether, and other manufacturers aiming straight for Lollipop 5.1. The current OTA being released in India will also be coming to Europe, something Motorola has already hinted at. While the company isn’t sharing exact dates about when this will happen and what phones will get it, inside sources close to us have confirmed that European users will start receiving Android Lollipop for the Moto G and Moto X (2nd gen) by the end of the month, meaning next week.
#Lollipop is rolling out in phases to #MotoG (2nd Gen) in US & #MotoG (1st & 2nd Gen) in India. Look for the notification on your device!

Motorola is also working on Lollipop updates for other phones in its line-up, but hasn’t officially confirmed which models will actually be eligible for the update, or when the update will actually start rolling out. The Motorola Droid Turbo and Droid Maxx are among the receiving smartphones, and there’s a good chance many more Motorola phones will eventually get the highly desirable update. If you’re living in India and own a Moto G (1st or 2nd gen), check your phone for a potential update prompt. If it hasn’t arrived yet, rest assured, it will during the next few days. If you are the owner of the same smartphone but are living in Europe, keep an eye on your phone and our website during the next week, as the new firmware will definitely be coming shortly. We will keep you updated about the roll-out, of course.
