Will The Last Guardian Be At E3 2015?
Ah, development hell. Since way back during the fledgling eras where we were first teased with Duke Nukem Forever, games have been torn up by bad budgets and red tape, switching hands from studio to studio and releasing all-around disappointments. One such game currently traversing this infamous limbo is The Last Guardian. The Last Guardian was announced almost a decade ago, back in 2007, and was to be the newest game from the minds who brought us the legends that were Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
In the “Top 15 Most Anticipated Games” from The Guardian, under their listing for The Last Guardian, the news outlet claimed they “have it on very good authority that this will be the year that Team Ico finally presents its follow-up to much loved classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.” They don’t list a source of any kind, but we all want to believe that our long wait could finally be over.
While it may just be wishful thinking, the reveal of The Last Guardian this E3 is most certainly not out of the question. When asked about The Last Guardian by Kotaku last December, Fumito Ueda (creator of The Last Guardian) said ““Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we’re making progress under completely new conditions.” This could mean anything from “We’re making it for PS4 now” to “We’ve scrapped everything and started again from the ground up.” This distinction can put development for The Last Guardian at two very different places, but neither of which put The Last Guardian in a place unfit to be seen at E3.
Whether The Last Guardian makes an appearance this year with some gameplay, or even just with a teaser, it would result in a joyous outcry from the entirety of the gaming community. The Last Guardian was last seen at E3 2009, and since then we’ve had absolutely nothing to go on about how it’s progressed. The return of one of gaming’s most beloved creators would be the highlight of many people’s E3 – and you can bet that it’ll be even more beautiful than it was when we saw it a decade ago. The Last Guardian will most certainly be made with PS4, and judging by the beauty that was pulled out of the PS2 and the PS3 by this same company, we’ll probably be seeing one of the most gorgeous titles we’ve ever been treated to. Cross your fingers, everyone!
