Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment gets new trailer

Shovel Knight had a very successful kickstarter campaign back in 2013, this has quite helped by the fact that Yacht Club Games had an excellent array of stretch goals, but the stretch goals that gathered the most attention were the ones that talked about playable boss characters. After the game released all eyes were set on the announced 3 boss characters that were not only going to be playable, but playable on their own separate campaigns. Plague Knight was the first to get its own free DLC campaign called Plague of Shadows on December 17th, 2015. And The Game Awards featured a trailer about Shovel Knight’s second expansion that features the boss Specter Knight called Specter of Torment.

The trailer shows how Specter Knight generally controls and plays, while Plague Knight looked like (and was) a slower, more tecnical version of Shovel Knight, Specter Knight looks like his more aggresive counterpart. Relying on dashes, wall running and sliding, it honestly reminds me of Megaman X, its interesting how we have a faster Shovel Knight and a slower Shovel Knight, it begs the question of how King Knight is going to play out. Interestingly enough, it looks like there is a lot of story content in Specter on Torment, with flashbacks and the like, its quite interesting because Specter Knight had strange dialogue when you fought him as Plague Knight, so maybe that will be adressed in the upcoming campaign.

I absolutely adore Shovel Knight, and Yatch Club Games’s Commitment to release free DLC as they promised three years ago is so transparent and kind that Its even hard to believe that they are a company. Although I didnt enjoy playing as Plague Knight as much as I enjoyed playing with Shovel Knight, Specter Knight looks to be fast paced and aggresive, which is what I like when playing a platformer.
