Double Dragon IX Coming to PS4 and Steam

For all you Double Dragon Fans out there, I have some great news for you. Arc System Works have announced that Double Dragon IX will be releasing on both PS4 and Steam in January. Arc System Works obtained the rights to the classic Beat Em Up franchise in 2015. While it is a new developer making Double Dragon IX, numerous members of the original development team are still working on Double Dragon IX. These include The original director Yoshihisa Kishimoto along with the original Character Designer, Composer and Programmer. For those of you not familiar with Arc System Works, they are a Japanese developer best known for their Guilty Gears games and most recently the Blazblue series.

Arc Systems Works released a press release today giving a release date for the game. Here is what they said.

“Arc System Works Co., Ltd. is proud to announce Double Dragon IV, the next instalment in the classic beat’em up series. The game will be available on the PlayStation庐Network for the PlayStation庐4 and Steam (PC) on January 29th and 30th in North America respectively (1/30 and 31st JST). Key team members involved in the 1987 arcade version including Original Planner, Yoshihisa Kishimoto, Designer, Koji Ogata, and Composer, Kazunaka Yamane, have teamed up to recreate the next chapter in the Double Dragon saga.

Billy and Jimmy Lee are back and they’ve brought the 80’s with them except the battlefield has moved to Japan!”

With Double Dragon IX releasing in 2017, it means that it is releasing 30 years after the original Double Dragon released as an arcade game back in 1987. I can not think of a better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of a franchise than releasing a new game in the series.

Arc System Works also released a teaser trailer for Double Dragon IX on December 26th. You can find the trailer on Youtube by clicking here.

So what do you think about Double Dragon getting a new games? What are you favourite Memories of from the Series? tell us in the comments. For me it was playing Double Dragon with my little brother on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
