Project Legion coming to PC, developed by the creators of Dust 514
CCP, the developers of Eve Online have announced today during EVE Fanfest that they are working on Project Legion, an fps similar to Dust 514. Dust is a PS3 exclusive free-to-play shooter that takes place in the EVE universe. The story originally appeared on Eurogamer who spoke with CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson about the upcoming title, which was described as “a new approach to being a mercenary on the ground”.
Instead of simply porting Dust 514 to PC, the developers figured a better idea would be to re-design the game while keeping in mind all the lessons they’ve learned from the their previous project. “It’s taking all we learned from Dust and almost making a new game from scratch, even though it’s the same team doing a first-person shooter, so they’re very experienced now. And we’ve made good headway on it.
Pétursson also mentioned that Project Legion is already “significantly different” from Dust 514 and that it will feel like a brand new game, despite the similarities between the two titles. “It’s almost more a revolution than an evolution, and that’s why we’re calling it Project Legion, because it’s, frankly, more like a new game.” Although the team is starting almost from scratch, they say that work is going faster than it did with Dust because most of the world already exists in Eve and the team is also more experienced now.
Executive producer Jean-Charles Gaudechon presented a live demo of Project Legion at FanFest but mentioned that the game is still at least a year away. Even though it’s early in development, Eurogamer says Project Legion looks promising and described it as being “handsome and complete, with lovely environments to explore.” CCP didn’t mention a release date and for the moment are developing the game for PC only, but other platforms might follow at some point.
