LG F70 vs. Moto G vs. Alcatel One Touch Idol S – Battle of the budget class

We want to present to you three of the best mid-range smarphones on the market that offer LTE capability. As the LG F70 is the newest addition to the mid-range class. If you are looking for a new smartphone that can offer good performance of a low price, these three are your best bet.

Alcatel One Touch Idol S

The Alcatel One Touch Idol S offers a very good price/performance ratio. It’s a good looking device, with a soft touch plastic back cover, not to mention that it’s only 7.4 mm thick. On the front we’re looking at a 4.7-inch IPS display offering 720p resolution and 312ppi. On its back we can find an 8MP camera with autofocus that’s capable of 1080p video recording. The Alcatel One Touch Idol S also comes with a secondary, 1.3 MP camera.

On the inside, the Alcatel Idol S comes with a MediaTek MT6577 chip and 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. It also comes with 1GB of RAM and only 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card. The Alcatel One Touch Idol S runs on Android 4.2 and it’s powered by a 2000mAh battery that should give you up to 6 hours of talk time. On the connectivity side, the Alcatel One Touch Idol S offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot and DLNA capability.

Moto G

The Moto G is one of the most affordable smartphone on the market that offers close to high-end performance. It has a typical slab look with a replaceable back cover that can be changed for a different color. It’s small form factor makes it easy to hold and operate with one hand. The Moto G is equipped with a 4.5-inch 720p IPS display with a pixel density of 329ppi. The camera on the Moto G is a 5MP image sensor with features like: autofocus, touch focus, burst mode, geo-tagging, HDR and panorama.

The Moto G comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The 8/16 GB internal storage can’t be expanded as the Moto G offers no microSD support. The Moto G comes with an almost stock version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Although the back cover is removable, the 2070mAh battery is not. With a full charge, the Moto G should last up to 24 hours of talk time.

LG F70

A few days ago LG launched the F70, a budget headset with LTE capabilities. The new device will first be available in Europe, and later in Asia and South, Central and North America. It will be available in two colors: black and white.

The LG F70 is a humble looking phone. It’s made out of plastic and comes with a patterned back cover. The built quality of the LG F70 is decent for an entry-level device. The F70 boasts a 4.5-inch IPS display at 800 x 480 resolution. It might not be the sharpest screen you’ve seen but it will help with performance and should also consume less energy. The LG F70 runs on Android 4.4 and features LG’s custom UI. On the inside it has a 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The built in storage size is only 4GB but it can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

The LG F70 also features a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera. The phone should last up to 2 days with moderate use thanks to its 2440mAh user removable battery. The LG F70 comes with some cool features. KnockCode for example lets you unlock the device by tapping the screen in a personalized pattern. This sequence of “knocks” can have over 80.000 possible combinations and providing greater security. Another useful feature is the Guest mode, which will keep your data private when you want to share the LG F70 with your friends.

Bottom line

As you can see, all of the three have their pros and cons and we don’t want to choose a definite winner. After all it all comes down to personal preference and price. Speaking of price, the Moto G and the Alcatel One Touch Idol S both cost around $180. We currently have no information about the price-range of the LG F70, but considering its slightly inferior specs it should be even cheaper.
