The Banner Saga Collector’s Edition coming July 26

Stoic Games has revealed that a Collector’s Edition of The Banner Saga will release on July 25. This will be the first time that the indie strategy title will be making its way to retail stores. It has previously only been available as a digital title from online distribution services such as Steam. Described as “the definitive version of the game”, the Collector’s Edition will come with the standard game along with the official soundtrack. As an added bonus, the retail copy also comes with the Insane Viking Pack. The additional piece of DLC was previously only available to those who had pre-ordered the game. The content will not be releasing separately, meaning this is the only way gamers will be able to get their hands on it when buying The Banner Saga.

The Banner Saga is a fantasy game inspired by Viking mythology. It infuses strategic and tactical gameplay with role-playing mechanics as players attempt to stop a huge army from advancing on their home. The combat focuses on turn-based combat, with players having to utilize a number of different types of units and abilities to out-maneuver their enemy. Choice also plays an important role overall, with actions having an effect on the overall campaign.

The developer behind the game, Stoic Games, is made up of three independent developers who had previously worked at BioWare. They funded the game with a successful crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter, eventually releasing The Banner Saga in January of 2014. They are hoping to release further games in the series, but are also concentrating on bringing the title to additional platforms. Versions for iOS and Android are already underway. However, the developers have also stated that they are hoping to bring The Banner Saga to consoles in the future, with a tentative plan of releasing them by the end of the year.
