Deep Silver acquired all rights to the Homefront IP from Crytek

It seems that Crytek’s financial difficulties are more serious than we thought. Today the studio sold the rights to the Homefront IP along with all associated assets to its publisher, Deep Silver. Crytek UK has been busy developing Homefront: The Revolution for the last couple of months, although rumor has it that work had slowed down to a crawl lately due to financial reasons. Luckily, development of the game will not stop as Deep Silver founded the Dambuster Studio in Nottingham, UK so that work on Homefront: The Revolution can continue as planned. The publisher seems to be very happy with their latest acquisition and have high hopes for the upcoming title.

“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver parent company Koch Media in a statement earlier. “We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years.” The acquisition apparently includes “the Homefront brand and all coherent assets.”

While Deep Silver seems to be very content, the same can not be said about most of the people who were anticipating the release of Homefront: The Revolution. This acquisition is likely to delay the game even more now. The original title was developed by Kaos Studios who later became defunct, and published by THQ who also became defunct. Crytek bought the IP back in 2013 after THQ went bankrupt and were looking forward to developing a great sequel. But now they are the ones who are struggling financially and Homefront may very well be only the first IP to be sold.

Word on the street is that Sony might be acquiring Crytek at some point in the future, but nothing is certain at the moment. Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.
