The August XBOX One update starts rolling today

A new XBOX One update begins rolling out today, according to Larry Hryb, the Director of Programming for Xbox Live. The update will contain improved social features, requested by the users through Xbox Feedback. The new features that will be available to Xbox One gamers over the next few days include the ability to purchase games remotely, through Xbox SmartGlass or Xbox.com. Users can have them download instantly by setting the console to automatically take updates, activity feed updates such as a single column scrooling list interface that is longer and includes more content, the ability to post text to your feed and to like and comment on feed items, share game clips with friends either publicly or privately.

Users will be notified when anyone likes, comments or shares those items. Through Smartglass, one can see what his/her friends have shared to their activity feed and like specific posts. Hryb also states that an additional activity feed support will be coming in future SmartGlass updates. Other features arriving through this update include: a notification pop-up when the controller battery is low and the ability to disable notifications during video playback, both implemented due to the feedback received from the users. Furthermore, the Blu-ray player app will be updated so that 3D Blu-ray functionality will be enabled on Xbox One. The last feature announced with this update is the “last seen online” notification in the friends list, which shows users how long it’s been since a friend has been online.

All these updates are explained and exemplified more in the video released by Larry Hryb through his blog, as seen above.
