Ubisoft CEO says Assassin’s Creed: Unity won’t be arriving on the WiiU

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot states that they will not release any more Assassin’s Creed games on the WiiU, following the poor sales of Assassin’s Creed III and ZombiU. The developer is known to be reserved about releasing their major titles on the Nintendo console. This is mainly because of the fact that, as Guillemot says, for WiiU users, games like Just Dance are more appealing than, say, Assassin’s Creed. In order words, Ubisoft is very selective with the products released for this console and are likely to keep this position until sales increase for it.

While Assassin’s Creed: Rogue is only set to be released on PS3 and XBOX 360 and Unity on the next gen consoles and PC, Watchdogs is still slated for a November 2014 release on the WiiU. According to Guillemot, it is the only mature game they will release on this console. The CEO announced that they are adapting the number of released products to the quantity of consoles that Nintendo has sold so far.

In June, Ubisoft announced that they have several projects in development for the WiiU: Just Dance, Watch Dogs and a yet undisclosed game that they have decided to hold on to until the WiiU gets a larger fan-base. Guillemot didn’t give a precise release date for the game and stated that they are waiting for the number of console sales to justify their investments. He states that one strategy for growing WiiU sales would be for Nintendo to make really good games and sell them at the right price.

The Ubisoft CEO believes that the WiiU will increase in popularity once Nintendo releases “Super Smash Bros 3D”. Guillemot says that he is confident that there are a lot of crazy Nintendo fans around that still love the company and the games they are making.
