Bungie’s “Destiny” gets a launch trailer
The launch trailer for Bungie’s “Destiny” was released today. It shows impressive graphics and action packed combat scenes. The trailer emphasizes on the game’s strong points, notably the graphics, gameplay, the huge universe and the multiplayer mode.
“Destiny” will be released on September 9th, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3. The game is published by Activision and it costs $59.99. According to Bungie, the game will not end after players complete the narrative. The multiplayer first person shooter will try to motivate gamers to keep playing through new content added on a daily basis. Bungie is also designing post-campaign raids that are similar to the ones found in MMO’s. They stated that their purpose is to keep “Destiny” going for the next ten years.
The developer, Bungie, is also known for the original “Halo” trilogy, released on Xbox 360 and PC, in collaboration with Microsoft. After releasing Halo 3, they decided to part with the publisher and become an independent company. However, they have also made two spin-offs to the series, “Halo 3: ODST” and “Halo: Reach”, before moving on from the now Microsoft owned franchise.
The development of “Destiny” did not go without issues. In April 2014, composer Marty O’Donell, who had been working for the company ever since the first Halo game was made, in 2000, was fired by the developer. Bungie did not give an explanation for this to date. O’Donnell filed a lawsuit against the company and a judge ordered them to compensate the composer for unpaid wages. Recently, an arbitrator also ruled that Bungie has to return O’Donnell’s founders’ stock. The value of the stock remained undisclosed. Marty first started working at Bungie in 2000, composing the score for “Halo: Combat Evolved” as a contractor. Later he became the audio director of the company. By the time of his firing, O’Donnell had already composed most of the “Destiny” soundtrack, along with Michael Salvatori and Paul McCartney.
