Sony SmartWatch 3, SmartBand Talk and Xperia E3 leaked ahead of IFA

Just now we were talking about Sony mega-waterproofing its new devices at IFA Berlin in a couple of days, but a new rumor has emerged since. It doesn’t really have anything concrete to do with Sony’s attempt to create the most water-resistant phone or tablet or whatnot, but it’s a more interesting piece of news.

Sony plans to launch the new SmartWatch 3, SmartBand Talk and Xperia E3 at IFA, adding to its already unveiled Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact portfolio. Whilst Sony keeps adding to its list of IFA participants, we continue to be baffled by what we’re going to see at the trade show in a few days.

These new devices that the company will be introducing at IFA have been leaked less than a day ago and show how Sony will not be left behind companies like Samsung and LG. First off, the Xperia E3 is supposed to be a new addition to the IFA line-up, as a successor to the Xperia E1. We don’t have a photo of the smartphone yet, but we have managed to get some specs: 4.8-inch display with 720*1280 pixels, 1.5 GB (or 2 GB) of RAM, and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz with Android 4.4 KitKat. The Xperia E3 will probably be a mid range device which will cost between $200 and $300. It can also be the device Sony hinted at in its #IFA tweet earlier, bragging about massive water resistance implementation, but it’s fairly unlikely because such a resistant device will surely be over $400.

Next, we found some blurry renders of Sony’s SmartWatch and SmartBand Talk which will also star at IFA Berlin. The SmartWatch will run on Android Wear and will feature a 1.68 inch screen with a 320 x 320 resolution. The gadget will also have an  IP58 certification, which means that it will withstand a submersion in up to 5 feet of water, for as long as 30 minutes. That’s all we know about the watch so far and if the leak is correct, the watch is not the extra-waterproof device Sony tweeted about.

Last, but not least, the SmartBand Talk is a newer version of the initial SmartBand, with Bluetooth on board besides the standard SmartBand features. We don’t know for sure whether adding Talk to the name of the gadget means that you will be able to place calls from the wearable directly or just use voice commands and text-to-speech function, but we will soon find out at IFA Berlin. It’s also a possibility that the SmartBand Talk will be the one to support immersion in more than 2 meters of water.

In any case, IFA Berlin is getting more and more interesting every day, with info leaking every hour on exciting new arrivals at the conference. The pressure is building and the trade show will surely be one of the most memorable tech events of 2014.
