Minecraft on PS4 was released today
Sony announced on their blog that Minecraft is being released on the Playstation 4 today. The announcement is a big surprise considering that, initially, Sony rejected the game and its release on this console was delayed.
The game is available on the Playstation Store for $19.99. However, those who already purchased the game for Playstation 3 and want the next gen version can upgrade for $4.99. According to Sony, Minecraft on PS4 will feature worlds 36 times bigger than those in the PS3 version. Also, if you have the game on the older console, you can import your saves to PS4 and continue playing from where you left off. Furthermore, if you purchased any DLC for the PS3 version, it will also work on the PS4. For now, the game is only available through digital download, but Sony assures that it will be released in physical format as well at a later time.
The Playstation Vita version of Minecraft is not going to be released yet, as it’s not ready. However, Sony confirmed that, when it comes out, it will be cross-buy with the PS3 version. This means that Minecraft for PS Vita will not be available to buy separately, only as an upgrade.
This is an interesting strategy coming from Sony. Initially, they announced that Minecraft for PS4 was going to be delayed so Mojang could fix certain bugs. Then, they announce the release of the game one day before the Xbox One version comes out. It could mean one of two things. Maybe Sony saw the potential in this game and teamed up with Mojang to fix the issues faster. Or maybe those bugs weren’t there to begin with and they just wanted to surprise the fans. One can never know and I guess any speculation is pointless as we speak. Bottom line, the PS4 version is out now and can be bought from the Playstation Store for $19.99. Or, if you already own the PS3 version you can upgrade for $4.99. Also, stay tuned for the Vita release. We will announce you the moment we get more details on it.
