Slender: The Arrival’s release date on consoles revealed

Publisher Midnight City Games (BloodRayne: Betrayal, Costume Quest 2) has announced the official release date for the console versions of the highly-popular first-person horror title – Slender: The Arrival. This latest console release will be coming out on September 23rd on the PlayStation 3, while Xbox 360 gamers will get it on September 24th, both versions setting you back $10. Slender: The Arrival on consoles features new story elements, in addition to extended levels that further explore the Slender Man myth. PC gamers – don’t worry; said new content will also be arriving on your platform of choice as a free downloadable package in the future.

Back in 2012, the original Slender game – now advertised as Slender: The Eight Pages due to its official publisher (Parsec Productions) – was first released as a free, indie-developed downloadable title on the PC and OS X. Using the Unity engine, Slender is based on the “fakeloric” figure known as Slender Man, who is popular for the abduction of children in mysterious, dark settings. The game takes place in the middle of a forest during the night, where the player’s main objective is to collect eight pages located in various areas of the forest, all while avoiding the Slender Man. The protagonist’s only available tool is her flash-light; its battery – however – is limited, and will eventually shut down permanently if left on for an extended period of time. The game also features several other modes that can be unlocked by finishing the original campaign, all which slightly alter the game’s nature (changing the time of day, the game’s theme etc.).

Overall, Slender’s minimalistic approach to horror was well-received by critics and gamers alike, contrasting with other horror titles which have opted for a more action-oriented gameplay in their latest entries (like the last two Resident Evil games). When the game was first released, it was so popular that its official website even crashed due to how many people were trying to download it. On March 26th, 2013, a sequel entitled Slender: The Arrival was officially released.
