Styx: Master of Shadows – ‘Assassin’s Green 2’ gameplay

Before officially launching Styx: Master of Shadows, developer Cyanide Studios has released yet another gameplay for the upcoming open-ended third-person stealth-focused title, in which players get to control a goblin that simply goes by the name of Styx. In this fifth gameplay video shown, we take another look at the dynamism and flow of Styx’s treacherous ascent, having discovered clones, tactics, skills, and styles. Using all of these to his advantage, Styx manages to poison guards, blind them with his clone, climb vast heights, and reach his objective unseen – the way a goblin should.

Even though he’s a 200 years old goblin, Styx’s nimble frame and athleticism lets him dance around his environment, relatively quietly with deadly speed and agility. However, while he is fast, agile, and cunning, he is also small, weak, and at constant risk of being surrounded should he knock over a vase, or land noisily, attracting the attention of the guards. As mentioned in the game’s official description, Styx: Master of Shadows is a challenging and subtle blend of stealth, exploration and assassination, with many opportunities to use the environment to subdue your enemies, or simply pass them by unnoticed, above, or below them.

Styx: Master of Shadows takes place in the same world established by 2012′s Of Orcs and Men, but the game’s plot takes place long before the events shown in said title. Styx ‘the first Goblin’ wants to steal the heart of a World-Tree enclosed inside the huge and terrifying Tower of Akenash. The overall story is a kind of a bildungsroman that leads Styx to a better understanding of his own origins. Being the very first of all the Goblins, he’s a master in the arts of stealth, theft, and murder. The depths of the miles-high Tower of Akenash – where Humans and Elves hide and protect the Tree, the source of the Amber – are the best chance Styx has of quickly amassing a small fortune and, perhaps, discovering more about his true origins along the way.

Styx: Master of Shadows launches on October 7th, on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
