The Sony Xperia Z4 Compact and the Xperia Z4 are the upcoming Sony flagships which should be arriving to the smartphone market in January 2015. The Sony Xperia Z4 Compact should end up being the smaller iteration of the flagship, with almost the same specs and a smaller screen than the Xperia Z4. According to most surveys, Sony’s flagships for 2014, the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact were well received, but the Xperia Z3 Compact was the more popular handset in the U.S.

Even though these specs are mostly just rumored and remain unconfirmed by the company, these specs are pretty plausible and the least smartphone enthusiasts would expect after the full year we’ve had. The Sony Xperia Z4 Compact camera should be a 20.7 MP sensor on the rear and a 5 MP sensor on the front. All these specs are mostly the same as for the Xperia Z4.

The smartphone releases of this year outshone the Xperia Z3 line, even though the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact were pretty great phones. The lack of popularity of Sony smartphones has greatly impacted the company’s revenues this year, but the on average better sales of the new flagships did give the company a boost and rumor has it that Sony will start a one year release cycle with the Sony Xperia Z4 and Sony Xperia Z4 Compact. According to the report, the Xperia Z4 Ultra will come with a 6.44 inch display and a QHD resolution, which would be impressive. The same 3 GB RAM and Snapdragon 810 CPU should also be on board, alongside a 16 MP camera. What’s more is that the Xperia Z4 Ultra will probably come with its own new stylus so that it can compete with the most popular phablet at the moment: the Galaxy Note 4. Even though the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact battery wasn’t mentioned, the Xperia Z4 Ultra should have a battery between 3500 and 4000 mAH.

The Sony Xperia Z4 and Z4 Tablet release date is January 5th, but the Xperia Z4 Ultra and Sony Xperia Z4 Compact release date will probably get delayed until Spring 2015 at least. The delay will probably be caused by the manufacturing issues Qualcomm has encountered with the Snapdragon 810 CPU. Even though many are more interested in the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact, the flagship is given more importance by the company, it seems. Nonetheless, take these rumors with a grain of salt and wait for further notice from Sony to see what’s what.
