HTC One M9 Hima renders show off the CES 2015 star

The HTC One M9 Hima is set for an appearance at CES 2015, but it looks like we don’t have to wait any longer to see what the handset looks like. Renders of the HTC flagship have been published online, and even though you might think they are just photos of the metal-clad One M8, they still show off some great traits and hint at a few features we’ll be seeing on the upcoming handset. The Taiwanese company had some bad luck in 2014, with revenues plummeting in the face of increased competition, but the Hima should be an innovative launch to pull them out of their issues.

Based on the leaked renders, the HTC One M9 Hima will look pretty similar to its predecessor, the One M8, with a full metal unibody, a rounded back panel, dual front-facing speakers, a massive camera with a few new features and a brand new Sense UI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The design of the handset isn’t as innovative as you would have expected, but it sure improves upon its predecessor.

Many people complained that the HTC One M8 was too tall and its screen to body ratio wasn’t ideal, so we were expecting some improvements on that front from the company that gave us Eye Experience. Even though the differences in design and size cannot be accurately pin-pointed from the renders, it looks like the HTC One M9 Hima will be shorter, wider and have less bezels than its predecessor. The metal chassis on the device will surely be as appreciated as it was on the record-breaking One M8, so we are glad to see HTC porting it to the new flagship. In spite of me not being a fan of the cold feeling metal phones have, I do enjoy the rounded design and sleek appearance of the alleged HTC One M9 Hima.

The renders obtained by Gizmochina do have some oddities about them, for example the weird HKI moniker adorning the back of the phone. Nonetheless, the website has a pretty good track record when it comes to smartphone leaks. Treat these images with a grain of salt, even though Gizmochina says they come from the designer of the handset. What’s interesting about the flagship is the sequence of three LED flashes on top of the rear camera, which could mean some new features and capture modes. Alas, we will be patient and wait for the HTC presentation at CES 2015, where the HTC One M9 Hima should be introduced.

From what we gather from around the web, the handset should sport a 5 inch 1080p display, a 64 bit Snapdragon 810 CPU backed by 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. The rear camera should measure 20.7 MP, while the front camera should be a whopping 13 MP sensor. Android 5.0 Lollipop and maybe even Sense 7.0 should be part of the package, so look out Samsung and LG, the Taiwanese smartphone giant has something great prepped for you.
