Watch Dogs 2 will be a more player-driven experience says Ubisoft

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Watch Dogs will be getting a sequel at some point considering that it was one of the most successful titles of 2014. While reviews were mostly positive, a lot of people agree that this was one of those over-hyped games that will be all but forgotten in a couple of years. Even so, there’s no denying that copies of the game were absolutely flying off the shelves at some point, with Ubisoft even proudly announcing that Watch Dogs broke the company’s record for best selling title on day one. Now, several months after the storm has passed, details regarding the sequel are beginning to surface with promises of a more player-drive experience.

In a recent interview with GamesTM magazine, creative director Jonathan Morin acknowledged the fact that gamers these days are more into creating their own stories rather than following the one Ubisoft already writes for them. It’s no secret that a lot of developers are switching to MOBAs or MMOs for that very reason as some of the most popular games at the moment are entirely online. Even though Watch Dogs does not fall into this category, it does have an online component and many players actually found in to be the most interesting part of the game. As a result, Ubisoft wants to put more emphasis on this and offer gamers more tools to play with in Watch Dogs 2.

Morin didn’t reveal anything specific about the company’s plans for the sequel, but he did say that Ubisoft must continue to take risks with the franchise and “appeal to fans in a new way”. “You have to carry on taking risks,” he said. “I will not do this job if there is no risk in it, that would just be boring. You shouldn’t prevent yourself from trying something just because it’s hard and the solution is not apparent.” In regards to Watch Dogs 2, he added that “with a sequel, there is more pressure to push a brand forward and we now have to appeal to fans in a new way.”
