HTC Desire 626 specs confirmed, coming to the MWC
The HTC Desire 626 is a mid-ranger that is supposedly going to show up at the Mobile World Conference in March. Rumors about the mid-ranger started in January, but there was little evidence to the existence of the device, until now. The HTC Desire 626 was noticed at TENAA yesterday, as it had passed certification for the Chinese smartphone market. The HTC Desire 626 as well as other smartphones that are showing up in various leaks points towards companies’ new tendency of creating mid-range smartphones that might be affordable without binding contracts, as users are experiencing “flagship fatigue”.
Mid-rangers tend to be a lot cheaper than flagship phones, which means that you might be able to buy them unlocked, without having to engage in a two-year binding contract, which is not a beneficial investment for most users. The HTC Desire 626 will probably be one of these mid-rangers with affordable prices, as the specs the TENAA certification confirmed point towards a camera-centered mid-ranger aimed at younger crowds who like taking photos and selfies.
HTC Desire 626 specs include a 5 inch display with a 720=1280 resolution, running Android 4.4.4 KitKat. While it is disappointing and confusing that HTC would launch a new smartphone that can handle Android Lollipop and release it with an older version. Maybe the TENAA certification is of a test device that hasn’t received Android Lollipop yet, which is what we’re hoping for. Besides the decent display, the handset comes with an octa core MediaTek processor backed by 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage, expandable via a microSD card. The camera setup will be quite impressive, as the certification documents point towards a 13 MP camera on the rear and a 5 MP camera on the front. We suppose an LED flash is included with the rear camera.
LTE is also included in the HTC Desire 626 specs, so we’re definitely looking at a desirable smartphone here. The battery seems to be a bit small considering the large display, LTE and not the best processor in the world, measuring 2000 mAh. Still, for a mid-ranger, that should make for at least a day’s mixed to heavy use. Since TENAA certifications tend to be pretty comprehensive, we also learned the exact dimensions of the HTC Desire 626: 146.9*70.9*8.19. These measurements put the phone at a comfortable size, so it will probably be one of those phones that you can easily work with even in the long term and even with one hand. The bezels are still going to be a bit thick, but we’ve been used to that with HTC smartphones. The MWC is the most likely place we’ll see the HTC Desire 626 live, so we’re looking forward to find out more about build materials and OS.
