One M9e leaked photos show off plastic body and fingerprint sensor

The HTC One M9e will be the cheaper, less gimmicky variant of the recently launched HTC One M9 and reportedly, the device is in the works and close to being ready for consumers. As usual with e variants like the HTC One E8, the HTC One M9e, as it has shown up in TENAA certification documents will be a cheaper phone with a plastic chassis instead of the high-quality metal chassis that the flagship is constructed from.

The images that were leaked today on TENAA reveal the HTC One M9e as being similar to the HTC One M9 Plus, having a round camera and a home button that looks like it has a fingerprint sensor embedded. Although it seems a bit unlikely that HTC would put the fingerprint sensor on the budget-oriented HTC One M9e instead of the flagship One M9, TENAA certification documents are usually correct. Having a fingerprint sensor will no doubt bring the price up a bit for the One M9e, but at least it will be more feature-filled than the flagship which ahs received a lot of criticism since the One M9 Plus was launched in China.

The One M9e really looks like the cheaper version of the One M9 Plus if anything, having a rather large 5.2 inch QHD display, a 64 bit MediaTek CPU backed by 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, a 20 MP main camera without the depth sensor that is present on the One M9 Plus, BoomSound speakers and a 4 MP Ultrapixel sensor on the front. That’s all that the certification documents reveal, so we can’t say for sure what price this device will get in the end. Based on pricing history for One E variants, the One M9e will definitely be under the $500 mark, although that fingerprint sensor might have something to say about that.

Since the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has not confirmed that the HTC One M9e is indeed in the works, it is anybody’s guess when or if this TENAA certified device will be released or if it will be an exclusive release like the One M9+.
