LG Unveils Wallpaper OLED Panel
Lg unveils its 55-inch wallpaper OLED panel in Seoul at a media event today. The new LG product is far thinner compared to its LG Displays existing flagship 55-Inch OLED panel that is 4.3 mm thick. This new OLED display is a only 0.97 mm thick and weighs in at 1.9 kg. It can be easily put up on a wall with a magnetic mat and can be easily removed with little to no effort. The display panel maker has pushed for production of this OLED and hopes it will be the growth that the company needs. LG Display also whipped out their brand new convex OLED panel whose main use is for digital signage for large-scale outdoor advertising.
This advanced display makes for a much slimmer and lighter TV. Since it emits light itself based on the electric current without a backlight unit, one can say this is unlike the ever popular LCD display. Head of the LG Display OLED division, Yeo Sang-deog, has promised to super charge forward with the OLED production from the third quarter of this year. He told reports at a press conference held after the media event at Seoul that, “We should be able to supply a satisfactory volume to our clients from July or August, which means we’re hoping to buckle down production as well as promotion from the third quarter.”
Yeo declined to say which clients, if any, have shown interest in LG Display’s OLED panels. However, we find it hard to believe that LG Display is not being bombarded with offers from all around the world, they only need to choose which best suits the company. Yeo continued to say that the company’s main goals for this year are to sell half a million units and double that in 2016. LG Display are focusing their OLED panels on bigger units going all the way up to 99-inches but no smaller than 55-inches. This will mean the price chart will likely never be in the lower range of TV units.
