PlayStation VR is out on North America with over 20 launch titles

Playstation VR has gathered quite the attention ever since it was announced as Project Morpheus back in the 2014 Game Developers Conference. The Sony developed virtual reality device got a lot of time dedicated to it at GDC 2016 and the Sony E3 2016 conference so interest kept increasing, especially due to its low $400 cost, considering the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive can cost up to twice as much. Pre-orders began on June 30th and stores like amazon literally sold out all of their preorder stock in minutes, it was clear that Sony had catched the public eye. But after a long time the PlayStation VR finally releases today, October 13th.

PlayStation VR launched on Midnight and some of its bundles have already sold out on digital stores like Amazon or Best Buy, numbers are looking quite promising as Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shawn Layden said to Polygon that Sony was already “making money on the VR console“. Numbers are probably being helped by Sony’s constant advertisements regarding the Playstation VR. Bundles include the regular PlayStation VR or the PlayStation VR launch bundle (which includes the device, two PlayStation Move controllers and a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds).

Some of the launch titles are the Polygon-developed and puzzle game Super Hypercube; the last Rocksteady Arkham game, Batman: Arkham VR; the standalone expansion of Until Dawn, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood; and the demo collection known as Playstation VR Worlds. Out of all of them the best received seem to be rhythm based games: Rez Infinite, a rail shooter where the music constantly evolves as the players advances through; and Thumper, an aesthetically beautiful action title that likes to call itself a “Rhythm Violence” game.

I’m quite intrigued by the PlayStation VR, since it requires a PlayStation 4 it’s very unlikely that I’ll be able to pick one up since I don’t own one, but the sales figures and all of the talk surrounding it make it sound like an interesting product.
