E3 2014: From Software announces Bloodborne, formerly known as Project Beast

Dark Souls developer From Software announced a brand new PS4 exclusive title that goes by the name of Bloodborne. Formerly known as Project Beast, Bloodborne was revealed yesterday during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference. The debut trailer doesn’t feature any actual gameplay, but we can expect the game to look every bit as dark and depressing as From Software’s previous titles. As far as we can tell you will take on the role of a hunter who took it upon himself to rid the world of monsters. The trailer depicts the protagonist battling what seem to be undead, but we also get a glimpse of one of the game’s bosses near the end.

Sony’s description of Bloodborne goes something like this: “Face your fears as you search for answers in the ancient city of Yharnam, now cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire. Danger, death and madness lurk around every corner of this dark and horrific world, and you must discover its darkest secrets in order to survive.” The company also revealed a few of the features that we can expect to find in the latest action RPG developed by the creators of Dark Souls and Demon Souls.

  • A Terrifying New World: Journey to a horror-filled gothic city where deranged mobs and nightmarish creatures lurk around every corner.
  • Strategic Action Combat: Armed with a unique arsenal of weaponry, including guns and saw cleavers, you’ll need wits, strategy and reflexes to take down the agile and intelligent enemies that guard the city’s dark secrets.
  • A New Generation of Action RPG: Stunningly detailed gothic environments, atmospheric lighting, and advanced new online experiences showcase the power and prowess of the PlayStation4 system.

We can see from the trailer that Bloodborne will feature some very gruesome melee weapons, but previous leaks suggest that you will also be able to use shotguns. Furthermore, multiple sources familiar with the project claim that magic will be part of your arsenal as well. Aside from rumors and speculations, there’s not much else we know about the game. However, Sony promises that more details about Bloodborne will be revealed sometime later this week.

The trailer reveals that Bloodborne will arrive in 2015 for the PS4 only. Unfortunately, an exact release date has not been mentioned as of yet. In the meantime, you can check out below a couple of concept art images from the upcoming game. Stay tuned for more news and E3 2014 coverage.
