Nokia X2 announced
The rumors that have gone on for months can finally stop: the Nokia X2 is here.
The teaser and countdown that appeared on the Nokia Conversations site Friday finally yielded results early this morning, as the next iteration of the Nokia X-Series of phones was announced on their official site shortly after. On par with the rumors, the phone has a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage, along with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing camera. The phone also sports dual SIM capabilities, the Fastlane navigation system, a feature exclusive to Nokia phones, and also includes a home button, which is a first for this series of phones and a major user request. A quick hands-on of the X2 by Nokia can be seen below.
The phone also runs the same heavily modified version of Android employed by its predecessor, the Nokia X. The interface retains the parent company’s signature Windows Phone UI but allows for access to a greater number of apps and services with the Android Market. Speaking of the Nokia X, the X2 is surprisingly similar to its original, with the exceptions of the home button, larger screen, glossy color finishes, and slightly upgraded processing power. A major selling point for the X2 also seems to be the revamped OneDrive options announced earlier today, and Microsoft hopes that a mid-level phone such as the X2 will help introduce their products to a wider and more global audience.
With the X2, Microsoft is going all in on accessibility, and the phone looks sharp. The Nokia X2 is priced at 99 euros, or approximately $135 in the US, a relatively good price for a phone of this stature. It comes in glossy green, orange and black, with glossy yellow, white and matte dark grey available at a later date.
