Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition out now

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition has released today according to developer DrinkBox Studios. The game is an updated version of the original Guacamelee! that released last year. The new title adds an expanded story mode, new areas to explore, a three-headed skeleton boss known as The Trio of Death along with numerous new enemies and abilities. The developer has also added support for more than one save slot as well as a new currency system. You’ll also be able to beat up skeletons in a variety of fancy costumes exclusive to this edition.

Guacamelee! released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. It received praise from critics for its unique art style, fast-paced combat and responsive controls. However, some players did feel that the length of the game was too short, perhaps explaining the expanded story in the new edition. It went on to be a commercial success and later saw a release on PC. It sees players take control of Juan Aguacate, an out of work wrestler, as he attempts to save his love interest from an army of deadly Mexican skeletons. The game mixes 2D platforming with gameplay usually associated with beat ‘em ups and allows for co-op gameplay. As you advance through the story you unlock a wide variety of new abilities.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is available to buy on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U for $14.99 in North America, £11.99 in the UK and €13.99 in the rest of Europe. Xbox One owners can download the title for free as part of this month’s Games With Gold promotion. The title replaces top down shooter Halo: Spartan assault and will be available until the end of July. Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is remaining free in July, despite first appearing on the promotion last month.
