Sony Santa Monica reveals future plans and new logo
Sony Santa Monica Studio, best known for their work on Journey, The God of War series, and more recently The Order: 1886 has a new home now. A few days ago the studio showed us how the new location looks like and said that this place is being called The Reserve. They also revealed that this is where their next great PS4 game will be developed, but didn’t give any further details. Today Santa Monica Studio shared some more plans for the future on the PlayStation blog. Unfortunately they still weren’t keen on saying much about their future projects, instead focusing mostly on their new logo.
This particular version seems a bit too colorful for my taste, but luckily the logo seems to have a darker variant as well from the looks of it. In any case, it arguably looks better than the previous one and Santa Monica Studio seems to be very happy with it so I guess that’s what really counts. Development for the new logo apparently began over a year ago and a lot of people were involved in the creative process. Santa Monica Studio sees the logo as a dynamic “window” into all of their games. They really wanted something that could exemplify who they are and what they’re all about.
“Our new logo, with its bold, simple structure can become a frame to the world of our games, filled with elements of the game such as key colors, textures, game content and screenshots. When you see the new animated logo boot up with our next external dev games such as Fat Princess: Piece of Cake and Hohokum, you’ll further understand how we crafted a mark that allows our games to visually become part of the brand. As you look upon this new emblem, though subtle the design may be at first glance, one cannot help but be pulled in to the compelling intricacy of its facets – our new logo is a dynamic ‘window’ into our games. The games we create at Santa Monica Studio become the very essence of who we are as a studio, and vice versa. Our games are the studio’s brand, and now our logo exemplifies who we are.”
Hopefully the studio will also talk about some of their projects soon enough. We’re especially curious about their “next great game” for PS4. I think many of us are hoping that this will be God of War 4, but who knows? We’ll let you know as soon as we learn something so stay tuned.
