Remedy Entertainment says Alan Wake 2 might happen when the time is right
Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish developer who brought us the Max Payne series, is considering making Alan Wake 2, according to creative director Sam Lake.
Currently, the developer is working on Xbox One exclusive “Quantum Break”, but they stated they’d return to the Alan Wake franchise when the time is right. The first game in the survival horror franchise didn’t do very well in sales, at least according to Microsoft. Therefore, Remedy found themselves in the situation of not being able to make the sequel fans expected due to a lack of funding. Alan Wake was released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and then, in 2012 for PC. Also, in 2012, Remedy released “Alan Wake’s American Nightmare”, a standalone entry in the series, with no ties to the first game.
Recently, Sam Lake, the Remedy Creative Director stated that the studio is looking for an opportunity to return to the series when the time is right. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they are confirming a sequel or anything. This statement is barely a reassuring for Alan Wake fans that the franchise is not forgotten and that Remedy is still trying to make it happen. However, even if the studio does manage to get the resources to start working on a sequel to Alan Wake, they can’t start working on it until after the release of Quantum Break, in 2015. Lake also adds that they could have worked on and released a less ambitious Alan Wake 2, but they chose not to do that. In other words, they would rather make sure they have everything in order and deliver a quality product instead of releasing a rushed game that wouldn’t do the franchise justice. I think the right thing to say to this, as a fan, is “fair enough”. If they finally make and release Alan Wake 2 and it’s at least as good as the first game, then it’s worth buying.
