Bungie announces limited-offer free upgrade for Destiny
According to Bungie, users who purchase the digital download of “Destiny” for Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 will be able to upgrade to Playstation 4 or Xbox One for free. There is, however, a catch to this. You only receive the free upgrade within the same console family. In other words, if you buy the Xbox 360 version you receive the Xbox One version for free. The offer is available until January 15, 2015.
The offer is available for those who purchase the Digital Base Game, Digital Guardian Edition or the Expansion Pass. Gamers who play on Playstation 4 or Xbox One will still be able to play Destiny on the last gen counterparts of said consoles as well, at any time. Also, stuff like Guardians, progress, stats and gear are shared within a console family. This basically means that if you play Destiny on Playstation 3, for instance, and then choose to continue your game on the Playstation 4 for some reason, you’ll pick up where you left off.
Bungie makes it clear that this limited offer is only available for the digital versions of Destiny and does not apply to physical editions. This is a great opportunity for those who want to upgrade to the next generation of consoles in the near future but would still like to play new games on their last gen console until then. It also makes a great Christmas gift, which is probably why the offer is extended till January. Of course, there is a little drawback (though understandable), regarding the fact that you can’t purchase the Xbox 360 version and upgrade to the Playstation 4 one. This means that if you are tired of Xbox and want to switch to Playstation, or the other way around, you will have to pay for the next gen version of the game.
Destiny launches tomorrow, the 9th of September 2014 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The price varies based on the edition of the game that you purchase. The standard edition costs $59.99, the Digital Guardian edition costs $89.99, the Limited Edition $99.99 and the Ghost Edition $149.99. Currently, the last two editions I mentioned can’t be purchased from Amazon anymore, as the stock was exhausted. This tells us that the game sold a lot of copies even before its release and it will probably become a best-seller shortly.
