Nexus 9 gets an October 16 release date
The anticipated HTC Nexus 9, dubbed Volantis, has been in “rumored” stage for quite a while now, with rumors saying it might show up at HTC’s Double Exposure event on October 8. New information has surfaced, though, and the long-awaited Nexus 9 tablet has a new rumored October 16 release date. If the Nexus 9 is indeed released on October 16 and it would come with Android 5.0 L, the tablet will surely be a headliner.
HTC has been presumably working on the Nexus 9 for quite some time now, and rumors say one of the most important features on the new tablet will be the Nvidia Tegra K1 processor. Of course, Android 5.0 L is the most expected software feature on the Nexus 9. Rumors say that the new Nexus line, including the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6, will be the first to run Android 5.0 L.
Android 5.0 L (Lemon Meringue Pie, Lollipop, Lion) is the biggest update, according to many, Android will be receiving and many are excited about the new features it will be bringing to devices. Android L will be optimized for 64 bit configurations and Material Design will be one of its most important improved features. Notifications and app integration will also be improved on Android 5.0 L, offering a high grade of customization, easy and fluid access to applications and actionable notifications right on your lock screen.
HTC hasn’t confirmed any of the rumored specs of the Nexus 9, but many media outlets believe that the so-far rumored specs are indeed plausible and an October 16 release date seems appropriate for a Nexus and Android release. So far, we suspect the Nexus 9 to sport an 8.9 inch screen with 2048*1440 resolution and 281ppi, 2GB RAM, and HTC’s famous front-facing speakers. It will be available in a 16 GB and a 32 GB version, with no microSD card slot and will be powered by a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Cortex-A15 Nvidia Tegra K1 CPU. Reports state that the tablet will cost $399 for the 16GB version, $499 for the 32GB version, while the LTE version will have a price tag of $600.
The Nexus 9 will surely compete against the upcoming iPad Air 2 from Apple, although we don’t have much information about what Apple is planning for the tablet. Otherwise, the Nexus 9 is mostly anticipated because it’s supposed to be a powerful tablet fit for both office- and gaming purposes, although it will never trump Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 tablet. Google has been known to choose Autumn timings for new Nexus releases, like it did with the Nexus 5 last year, so we find it completely possible for the Nexus 9 to be released on October 16.
Besides the rumored release date, we’ve heard some murmurs about the announcement coinciding with the launch date of the Nexus 9, suggesting that Google is in no mood for waiting. That would mean that we will actually be able to get our hands on the Nexus 9 by the end of the month, if it will be put up for sale on October 16.
