Xbox Games With Gold October titles announced

Major Nelson announced the titles that you will be able to play for free in October if you are an Xbox Live Gold member. During the next month, Microsoft offers three titles for free through the Games with Gold service.

The first game is “Chariot”, made by Canadian indie developer Frima. Chariot is a 2D cooperative platformer that is slated for a fall 2014 release. According to Microsoft, the Xbox One version will arrive in October, as a free download for Games with Gold members and it will replace “Super Time Force”. The game will also be released on PS4, Wii U and PC, but the release date for these platforms is not known yet.

Starting October 1st, Games with Gold members will be able to download “Battlefield: Bad Company 2” on Xbox 360 for free, for two weeks. EA’s first person shooter usually costs $19.99. Bad Company 2 was released in March 2010 for PC, PS3, Xbox 360. Later it also got ports for iOS and for Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Once Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ends its turn, Microsoft will replace it with Darksiders II (starting October 16). Developed by Vigil Games and published by the now bankrupt THQ back in 2012, Darksiders II is an action role-playing hack and slash game. It usually costs $49.99, so being able to download it for free through the Xbox Games with Gold service seems like a good deal.

In Major Nelson’s post, it is also noted that the respective games may not be available on Xbox Live with Gold in all regions. Some countries might replace a game with something else. For instance, the Xbox 360 title “Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine” was replaced with Castlevania: Harmony of Despair in Japan. This, however, doesn’t happen all the time and, as of now, it is now known whether the announced games will be replaced with something else in certain regions or not.
