Halo 5 Guardians will feature Agent Locke as its primary character, Master Chief might be dead

It was already speculated that Agent Locke, the protagonist of Halo Nightfall will be available as a playable character in Halo 5 Guardians, but now it looks like he will have a more important role than it was previously believed. A recent interview with Mike Coulter, the voice of Agent Locke himself reveals that he will in fact be the primary character in Halo 5 Guardians. “Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you’re basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character,” Colter said. “I’ll have some cool weaponry, and some cool abilities, because by that time I’ll be a Spartan IV.”

The voice actor also gave a few hints in regards to the fate of Master Chief, whose location is currently unknown. Locke will have the mission of tracking down Master Chief in Halo 5 Guardians, but his exact purpose is yet to be revealed. Colter says that he doesn’t know if Agent Locke will be a friend or a foe to Master Chief and he also hints that the latter might in fact be dead for all we know. “What’s not known, is whether I’m a friend or foe,” Colter says. “The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because what’s the outcome? Is he dead or alive? Because that’s usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won’t know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he’s at mentally. But I’m sure that’ll be a plot twist in Halo 5.”

Since he mentioned Master Chief’s mental state we can only assume that he is still alive in Halo 5 Guardians. However, Colter himself doesn’t seem to know all the details of the plot at this point so who knows? Halo 5 Guardians will be released exclusively on the Xbox One sometime during Q4 2015.
