iPhone 6 is more popular than the iPhone 6 Plus

Apple has just launched its new smartphone line, including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last month, to enormous success and demand. The company has reportedly had issues with meeting demand of the iPhone 6 Plus, since the cumulative number of iPhone 6 devices sold in their first week after launch was around 10 million units. Most of them being 4.7 inch iPhone 6 units, not 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus units.

According to our sources, Apple has presumably sold over 21 million handsets since its launch date, which is a record number of smartphone sales. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus had enormous hype surrounding them and people were jumping at the occasion to buy the phones online and in stores. In the first week of sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple sold 10 million of these units, mostly smaller iPhone 6 ones. Now, a month has nearly passed since the iPhone 6 was first announced at the Flint Center on September 9, and it seems that Apple has sold over 21 million units of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

According to analysts, the smaller iPhone 6 is 4 times more popular than the phablet iPhone 6 Plus, making up for about 17 million units sold since launch date, while the iPhone 6 Plus makes up the rest of the 4 million units sold. It seems that Apple might have shot itself in the foot with the iPhone 6 Plus because customers don’t seem to be all that interested in the phone. We need to consider that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus haven’t made it to China yet, so whether people like the phablet-form on the iPhone 6 Plus will be further detailed when the phone gets there. In the US, the iPhone 6 makes up for almost 6% of all iOS running phones, whilst the iPhone 6 Plus makes up for only 0.5% of iOS devices.

Maybe people like the way the iPhone 6 Plus was designed, and the problem is shortage of supply. Apple has been focusing on catching up with the demand for the iPhone 6 Plus, so the company surely expected the phablet to sell less than its little brother. If that was what crossed Apple’s mind, they might have been wrong – demand for the iPhone 6 Plus is above expectations. Apple is struggling to keep up with the demand and we hope there won’t be an issue when the iPhone 6 lands in China on October 17.
