Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor gets new, free of charge DLC

Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has just announced the latest downloadable package for its highly-regarded third-person action/adventure title, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Called the ‘Power of Shadow’ bundle, this latest DLC adds a new skin – the Black Hand – in addition to three, brand-new Epic Runes of Power. The first Rune grants players immunity to poison attacks from Uruk Captains and Ghuls, the second Rune doubles Focus time, while the last Rune increases your defense. As mentioned in the title, the Power of Shadow comes free of charge. Xbox One gamers can already download it, while PlayStation 4 and PC players will get it “soon”.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a dynamic game environment where the player orchestrates their personal plan of vengeance as they bend Mordor to their will. The game begins on the night of Sauron’s return to Mordor, as his Black Captains brutally execute the Rangers of the Black Gate. Players become Talion, a ranger who loses his family and everything he holds dear, only to be returned from death by a mysterious Spirit of vengeance. Based on the player’s actions with the in-game Nemesis System, every enemy encountered is distinct and can evolve to become a personal archenemy through the course of the game.  As Talion’s personal vendetta unfolds, players uncover the mystery of the Spirit that compels him, discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis.

Even though the game’s story involves the Rings of Power, Shadow of Mordor’s plot is separate from the Lord of the Rings canon. That said, the Monolith Productions team has worked with Middle-earth Enterprises, Peter Jackson, and the artists at the Weta Workshop to make sure that the settings, characters, and story align with the canon of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is already available for purchasing on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, while PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players will get it on November 18th in North America and November 21st in Europe.
