Tales from the Borderlands gets a world premier trailer

Developer TellTale Games has released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming episodic series set in the Borderlands franchise, Tales from the Borderlands. As the series’ iconic Handsome Jack explains, Tales from the Borderlands takes place after the trilogy. After that’s settled, the trailer introduces us to the game’s two leads – Rhys, a Hyperion “suit” who aspires to be the next Handsome Jack, and Fiona, a Pandoran con artist looking to hit her biggest score ever.

Tales from the Borderlands is an upcoming episodic graphic adventure based on the Borderlands series, with a planned release starting in late 2014 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and PC. The game is being developed by Telltale Games in partnership with Gearbox Software and 2K Games, the developer and publisher of the Borderlands series respectively. Tales from the Borderlands will follow a similar episodic format that Telltale has used for its titles The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, where player choices and actions will have significant effects on later story elements. In addition, the game will include some of the gunplay that the Borderlands series is known for.

Tales from the Borderlands primarily is a point-and-click adventure game similar to Telltale’s other games, to be released as a number of episodes. The player will be able to move their player-character around the world’s environment, interacting with objects and initiating conversation trees with non-player characters. Choices made by the player will have an impact on later story elements in future episodes. Tales from the Borderlands will also include some degree of the shooter elements, particularly on the procedurally-generated guns and loot generation, featured in the Borderlands series. Some loot from the game will be able to be used in other games in the Borderlands series.

Voice actors from the previous Borderlands games will return to voice characters in this game, including Dameon Clarke as Handsome Jack. Troy Baker and Laura Bailey voice the two main protagonists, Rhys and Fiona. In addition, voice actors including Nolan North, Patrick Warburton, Chris Hardwick, and Erin Yvette will voice characters in the game.
