Driveclub DLC Coming Soon For Free

Driveclub DLC pack “Ignition” has been announced as a free pack by Playstation exclusive Driveclub developer Evolution. The developer posted a preview video revealing five new cars, which are: the W Motors Lykan Hypersport, BMW M4, the Renault Twin’Run, the Catherham SP/300.R, and the KTM X-Bow R.

The free offering comes after Driveclubs’ poor launch with connection issues with players struggling to log in. Developer Evolution has been hard at work trying to fix these issues constantly updating players on the games’ current status. A scheduled free version of the game for PlayStation Plus users has now been delayed indefinitely. It was unclear as to what was causing the connection issues, with Evolution believing the problem to be buggy net code but have since went on to say it was due to capacity. Last month President of World Wide Studios stepped in to apologise personally stating: “Unfortunately, the road to launch has been a little rocky, and we are truly sorry that so many of you have not been able to enjoy everything that we had hoped Driveclub would deliver.”

Driveclub was released on October 7 to decent reviews, while critics praised its visual strength and feel, it seemed the lack of cars and overall things to do made the game feel small when compared to its completion offering open world experiences. Games are being released with major issues lately, rushing into a release becoming a sad trend among developers. Most recent example of this trend would be Assassin’s Creed: Unity. The game itself was struggling to run, with major frame rate drops and glitches, not to mention bugs.

Four more DLC packs have been added to the season pass for Driveclub as a further attempt to make up for the poor launch. Speaking with IGN, SCEA President and CEO Shawn Layden explained that “now, in a connected world, you can’t test in your house or in your beta group what it means to have 50,000, 100,000, 200,000 users hit your service,” going on to say Evolution were struggling with that.
