Metal Gear Online Confirmed for The Game Awards 2014

Metal Gear Online originally released with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the PlayStation 3 back in 2008. Now it seems that we will be able to experience the world of Metal Gear Online once again.

Over Twitter today, it was confirmed that Hideo Kojima would be premiering Metal Gear Online at The Game Awards 2014. Game Awards presenter Geoff Keighley tweeted: “Next Friday night I’m honored @Hideo_Kojima_EN will join us at @thegameawards to world premiere Metal Gear Online.” The game is expected to be part of Kojima’s upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Konami has already revealed that the title will have a multiplayer component comprised of players infiltrating each others’ Mother Bases.

Released in the summer of 2008, Metal Gear Online’s North American and European servers were shut down in 2012. The game put groups of up to 16 players in online tactical warfare. The game featured many different modes, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Base Mission, Capture Mission, and Team Sneaking. The game featured some expansion packs before being shut down.

Hideo Kojima’s main project at the moment is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The latest title in the series, the game follows Big Boss as he sets out to get revenge on those who destroyed his forces in the prequel title Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Gameplay will remain much like Ground Zeroes, and will take place in an open-world. The game will take mechanics from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker , in that players can build a base, and recruit enemy soldiers and prisoners. Big Boss is also able to call in allies, including the female sniper Quiet, and DD, a trained wolf.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumored for a Q1 2015 release. The game will be available on a range of consoles, including PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
