Sony Xperia Z3 is gettting Android Lollipop next month
Sony Xperia Z3 owners received some good news during the CES 2015 as COO Michael Fasulo confirmed that Android Lollipop is well underway and will reach the flagship soon. While he didn’t reveal a specific release date, Fasulo gave a launch window of “next month” for the update. So, in February we’re finally going to see Android Lollipop on the Sony Xperia Z3, but we might see it on other devices of the series as well. Late last year, Sony announced that the entire Xperia Z series will be upgrading to the latest version at some point. Unsurprisingly, the flagship will be the first to get it, but its siblings should follow in the coming weeks or months after that as well.
Speaking of the highly acclaimed series, the successor to the Sony Xperia Z3 and upcoming flagship is also expected to receive the Android Lollipop treatment. Most sources indicate that the Sony Xperia Z4 will be running on the new version of the operating system straight out of the box. The device unfortunately didn’t make an appearance at the CES 2015 so we can only assume that it’s going to be featured at the next major event of the year, the MWC 2015. The upcoming event will take place this March in Barcelona and is expected to be the launching pad not only for the successor to the Sony Xperia Z3, but also for the LG G4 and the Samsung Galaxy S6.
As for Android Lollipop, Sony Xperia Z3 owners can look forward to various features, bug fixes and improvements when the update lands next month. Among the new features, users will be able to find Priority mode, improved battery life and security, Device sharing, Lock Screen notifications, and overall enhanced performance. The user interface also received a nice overhaul, although it’s hard to say how it will look on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z4 since it will probably receive a custom UI courtesy of Sony.
