CD Projekt reveals hefty Witcher 3 PC system requirements

As we enter 2015, we’re looking forward to some amazing games. At the top of many gamers’ wish-list lies CD Projekt Red’s final part in the Witcher sage, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Besides promising to bring a colossal open-world setting and impeccable story-telling, one of the primary features of The Witcher 3 are it’s impressive visuals. That being said, visual fidelity and awe comes at a high price usually, and the price seems to be especially high in the case of Geralt’s last adventure. The White Wolf will squeeze the most out of your PC, so if you are planning on playing the game at its highest settings at full HD or above, be prepared to invest in some above average hardware.

CD Projekt Red has unveiled the PC requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and as expected, they’re not exactly easy to match. You’ll need the upwards of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 to enjoy the game at decent framerates, and that’s on the low-end of the requirements. An i5 or Phenom II X4 are minimums, with top-end i7 CPUs being the recommended solution. This is less surprising considering that a mid-2014 report suggested that even in internal testing, the game put many high-end GPUs to their knees. Based on how well the game looks (we’re not talking about tuned-down, console footage), we can definitely see why.

The Witcher 3 was set for a 2014 initial release, but was pushed back to February 2015 by the company. Another delay was revealed recently, with the game’s final release date now being set in stone for the 19th of May, 2015. There’s still quite the waiting to do, so better start up saving for some hardware upgrades if you want to get the most out of the Wild Hunt’s impressive graphics engine. Oh, and if you were wondering why the second delay occurred, it’s due to extensive testing and polishing CD Project is aiming for. The game has entered gold status (meaning no changes to content are being done) in December, based on insider sources, so the remaining 5 to 6 months are reserved solely for quality assurance.
