Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Announced

Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition has been announced by Nintendo and GungHo Online Entertainment. Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition will be released on April 29, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The game will feature gameplay from the popular puzzle role-playing game Puzzle and Dragons, which was first released in 2012. The title is available on iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire and Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition will be the second game in the series to be on a Nintendo console. Puzzle and Dragons has mainly been free-to-play, although the Nintendo 3DS title will most likely be the standard $39.99.

Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition will feature several Mario Bros characters including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Bowser. The game is a match-three puzzle game where you use the bottom screen to form matches that combine together to do damage to enemies on the top screen. Enemies shown include Koopas, Koopa Paratroopas, Blooper, Cheep Cheep, Piranha Plant, Boos and Dry Bones. The plot appears to be standard Mario fare with Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach. The mainline Puzzle and Dragons has been downloaded over 32 million times as of November 2014. Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition won’t be the first collaboration but will be one of the few spin off games. Some of the collaborations include Ragnarok Online, Neon Genesis Evangelion, 7-Eleven, Monster Hunter, Batman Arkham Origins, Angry Birds, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and The New 52 from DC Comics.

The composer for the Puzzle and Dragons series is Kenji Ito, who is also responsible for the Mana and SaGa series over at Square Enix. After his departure he worked on numerous other games Including Half-Minute Hero and Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor. GungHo Online Entertainment has also created a few other titles, including Ragnarok Online an MMORPG, and the puzzle title Dokuro for PlayStation Vita.
