Resident Evil Revelations 2: Barry’s Episode Gameplay Preview
Over 7 minutes of Resident Evil Revelations 2 gameplay footage has been released from a media event with Capcom on January 21st. The gameplay video focuses on Barry’s episode and shows how he and Natalia work together to overcome various obstacles in the game. Barry is the muscle and is used for combat, healing, and getting through large doors. Natalia has an Awareness & Pointing ability that allows her to sense the locations of enemies, ammunition, and hidden items. The ability can be preformed when Natalia crouches and once in this “Detective Mode” her abilities are increased as she is now able to sneak around enemies virtually undetected. Barry and Natalia can be switched on the fly to accommodate the player’s needs. The last minute or so of the video shows Claire in various locations reminiscent to Resident Evil 5 and 6 during a Raid Mode mission. The gameplay overall largely resembles Resident Evil Revelations and looks to grant fans of the Revelations series, more of what they want.
The gameplay video in my opinion largely resembles The Last of Us, and while watching I had a hard time reminding myself that I was watching Barry and Natalia, and not Joel and Ellie. The overly masculine trope protecting a little girl has been done to death and none better than in The Last of Us. I just hope that Resident Evil Revelations 2 has more to offer than rehashed gameplay elements of revered games.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is set to release in digital episodic format on February 24thon PSN and on February 25th on Xbox Live and PC. A physical disc based version is coming to Ps4, Ps3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on March 17th which will include all 4 main episodes, 2 additional episodes, and more additional content like outfits and Raid Mode characters for the game.
