Android 5.0.2 now available for Motorola Moto E through XDA Developers
A diligent developer over at the XDA forums has released a new custom ROM for the Motorola Moto E, based on Android 5.0.2 and CyanogenMod 12. Officially, there isn’t an update or an official ROM from Cyanogen available for the Motorola Moto E, but considering that there are thousands of users of the budget handset out there, developer percy_g2 thought it would be a nice gesture to modify the existing ROMs and make one available and compatible with the Moto E.
The ROM is called CyanogenMod 12.0 CAF Condor, and it is an unofficial build of CyanogenMod 12 that can be flashed onto the Motorola Moto E. As usual with custom ROMs, you need to proceed with caution as you will void your warranty upon completing the process. At the same time, you need to have some experience with software in order to this on your own, but forums members at XDA will certainly help you out if you’re a beginner at this.
Motorola Moto E owners have been waiting for an official Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but since that isn’t available yet, these custom ROMs are the best way to try out the new software from Google or at least a version of it. CyanogenMod 12 is one of the best custom ROMs you can get out there, because it comes with a lot of customization options that drool Lollipop all over your user interface. If you’re anxious to see Android Lollipop on your Motorola Moto E, go ahead and try the Condor ROM from percy_g2.
Beware, though, because this Motorola Moto E ROM might come with a few bugs. Be sure to follow the instruction to the letter and report any bugs you might encounter. So far, everything seems to be working fine for those who have already tried installing the custom ROM on their Moto E devices, aside from a few issues impacting the display (which has a reddish glow) and some users are experiencing problems with SIM card detection. Be sure to check out what forum members are saying and proceed accordingly. At least you can try Android Lollipop on your Moto E and enjoy the customization CyanogenMod 12 offers. Have fun!
