Galaxy Tab S2 with an 8 inch display in testing in India

A new variant of the Galaxy Tab S2 has surfaced on the internet, thanks to a set of import listings that reveal the device sent for testing purposes to India. According to these invoices and import listings, the new Galaxy Tab S2 gets an 8 inch display, meaning that Samsung is planning on releasing a compact tablet that would cater to those who are in-between size preferences. There are many people out there who find 7 inch tablets too small, but 10 inch tablets too large for optimal portability. The 8 inch form factor in tablets is right in the middle and makes for a quite portable device that will fit in a handbag, small backpack or even a larger fanny-pack for that matter.

Although the listing doesn’t confirm that the South Korean company will be launching the Galaxy Tab S2 variant anytime soon, it does confirm that the unit is being tested in Indian Research and Development centers. According to the listing, picked up by SamMobile, the new Galaxy Tab S2 will get an 8 inch Super AMOLED panel that has a massive 2048*1536 resolution. That resolution and display size make for a 4:3 aspect ratio, which seems to be a preferred ratio among compact tablets.

Moreover, the listing reveals that the Galaxy Tab S2 will be yet another piece of evidence of Samsung’s new design language emphasizing portability, design and thinness. The listing reveals that the new compact slate will measure only 5.4 mm in thickness, making it thinner than the iPad Air. Under the hood, the slate will supposedly get an octa core Exynos 5433 PU, backed by 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. There will be an 8 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front camera, making the tablet pretty worthy of attention.

As the Galaxy Tab S2 will be a new release, naturally it will get support for LTE Cat 6, so that users will benefit from the fastest 4G connection around. Since design is one of the things Samsung is now focusing on, the Galaxy Tab S2 will have a metal body, which doesn’t come as a surprise. You should know, that a larger variant of the slate has also appeared, with a 9.7 inch display for those who prefer the larger things in life. Release date and pricing hasn’t been revealed, but we did find out that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be on the slates out of the box, which is neat.
