Releases for the Week of May 3-9
We all know that keeping up with the newest releases can be extremely time consuming. Below, you’ll find a list of the major releases for this week, in an attempt to make sure that no one misses out on any good games that are releasing. These release dates are for North America.
Tuesday, May 5th
Warside for PC. Warside is a session-based MMO that features 2D shooting gameplay. The game allows you to create a character and participate in various team vs. team battles, which earn you experience and gear that you can use to upgrade and equip your character. There are four races and classes to choose from, and each class features three different “skill trees”, that are actually extremely linear in terms of progression, that you can upgrade in order to give your character a personal feel. Warside can be found on Steam (launching into Early Access), and will be free-to-play.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker for 3DS. Keeping the trend of ridiculously long names going, this entry into the series is a new version of the 2012 tactical role-playing game. It will be available on the Nintendo e-shop or your local retailer for $49.99.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood for PC, PS4, Xbox One. This is a standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order, and features eight chapters to play through. If The New Order is anything to go by, then we can expect extremely entertaining gunplay mixed with some excellent storytelling, which is always unusual for a FPS. You can grab The Old Blood on Steam, Playstation Store, or the Xbox Live Marketplace for $19.99.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor – Game of The Year Edition for PS4 and Xbox One. This release packages the base game with all of the previously released DLC, and can be purchased on the Playstation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace for $49.99.
Cosmophony for PS4 and Vita. Cosmophony is a rhythm-shooter game that features a mainly drum & bass soundtrack. The game features extremely simple mechanics, yet manages to provide a solid challenge. Cosmophony will be available on PS4 and Vita for $4.99.
Wednesday, May 6th
Blitzkrieg 3 for PC. Releasing into Early Access, Blitzkrieg 3 is a mainly multiplayer strategy game, but also features a fully-fledged single player campaign. The game is set during WWII, and features an interesting asynchronous multiplayer mode that allows you to make your moves while your opponent is away, which he or she can then react to upon returning. This eliminates the issue that the games may take a ridiculously long amount of time, and allows you to play at your own pace. Blitzkrieg 3 will be releasing onto Steam, and can be purchased for $29.99.
The Music Machine for PC. This atmospheric horror game puts you in the shoes of a young girl who is being controlled by an old “friend”. This friend has taken control of her body in order to find a suitable way to end her life, which leads them to an island that has been the site for numerous recent murders. The story of the game sounds intriguing, and the visual style is quite unique, so definitely keep an eye on this one. The Music Machine will be available on Steam. (I could not find a price for this one).
Thursday, May 7th
Project Cars for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A game that I’ve been looking forward to for what seems like forever, Project Cars claims to be the most realistic, intense, and technically-advanced racing game ever made. You can challenge this claim by purchasing the game and seeing for yourself on Steam, Xbox Live Marketplace, or the Playstation Store. It will be $49.99 on PC, and $59.99 for consoles.
That wraps up the major releases for the week, but be sure to keep an eye on Steam and other platforms for the indies that are sure to sneak by without much coverage. What games are you all looking forward to this week? For me, it is definitely Project Cars and The Old Blood.
