Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Announced

Shovel Knight is a game that was a bit of an indie darling in 2014. Backed on Kickstarter, was released to extremely positive reviews as well as commercial success. It has since then been ported to nearly every major gaming platform, including the 3DS and PS Vita. Yacht Games, the developer of Shovel Knight, kept the fanbase alive by releasing an entirely free campaign, Plague of Shadows, for it. Now though, even more content is on the way for Shovel Knight. Yacht Games recently made a rather large announcement about Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

Simply put, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is the next step Shovel Knight is going to take. A third campaign for the game, Spectre of Torment, will be released soon and will mark the transition into Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Said transition will come with a price increased on the game and all of the released campaigns. Players who already own the base game, however, will receive a free upgrade to Treasure Trove. What’s more, customers will be able to buy one campaign separately at a reduced price. There is no exact date for this, but Yacht Games has confirmed it will be in spring.

In addition to the game’s third campaign, a lot more is coming to Shovel Knight. Local co-op and Body Swap Mode will be released for free to all players. Local co-op will be included on all platforms except handhelds, and Body Swap Mode will be universal. Body Swap Mode was something promised in the Kickstarter campaign, essentially a mode that swaps all genders. What’s more, a fourth campaign and a multiplayer mode are in the works as well. To cap this all off, Shovel Knight will be receiving a port on the Nintendo Switch. No word on whether it will receive the game before the Treasure Trove change happens.
