Latest Xbox One update comes with external storage support
Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson has announced via Twitter that the Xbox One June update is now rolling out. The system update comes with some highly anticipated features, most notably the addition of external storage support. This means that your Xbox One can now support up to two hard drives at once. This feature was teased earlier this month by Microsoft when one of their devs posted an image that came with the message “External Drive Ready”. The company says that this was one of the most requested features by users so they decided to finally implement it. “Simply plug in your 256 GB or larger USB 3.0 external hard drive and once formatted, copy and move games, apps and game add-ons to increase your storage capacity at home.”
The update also added another important and requested feature, which gives you the ability to use your real name on Xbox Live. This comes with the option of choosing whether or not you want to actually share your name with your friends or a subset of your choosing. Also, your real name doesn’t actually appear in games. Another important aspect to note is that with this update more than 180 apps and services have been made available to everyone on Xbox. Gold membership is no longer required to stream Twitch, Hulu Plus, HBO GO and the like. On the other hand, there are now more benefits to becoming an Xbox Live Gold member. Major Nelson revealed that a free 3-month trial of Hulu Plus will be available for all Gold members in the U.S.
Furthermore, the update adds the long-awaited Games with Gold and Deals with Gold for the Xbox One. You can already download two games for free from the Xbox Games store if you happen to be an Xbox Live Gold member. “Start playing both “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault” on Xbox One now, then be sure to check out the new virtual member area of the dashboard for the latest deals and discounts available exclusively for Xbox Live Gold members.” Additionally, with Deals with Gold you now get a %50 discount if you plan on purchasing Crimson Dragon. On June 16th Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will also be available for free.
As a reminder, the original Dark Souls is still free of charge until June 15th for all Xbox Live Gold members. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
