Scalebound already playable, but we can’t see it yet

Scalebound is a new IP that was revealed by Microsoft last week during their E3 2014 press conference. The game’s trailer looked really good, but unfortunately that’s all we have to go on for now. The company didn’t share a whole lot of details about the title aside from the fact that it is being developed by Platinum Games and it will be an Xbox One exclusive. But while we keep wondering about Scalebound, Phil Spencer is already playing it. The Head of Xbox went earlier on Twitter and posted a message in which he says that the game is playable, but the company is not yet ready to show it to us or give details in regards to the story.

We assume the game is still early in development and running on a pre-alpha build so maybe that’s why they’re not keen on showing it yet. The sad news is that we can’t know anything about the story either for some reason so we’ll just have to keep guessing. Although Spencer isn’t ready to talk more about Scalebound yet, he did reveal some other things that might be of interest to Xbox fans. With E3 2014 now over, the company is focusing on some of the other gaming events that will take place this year. One of these events is the Tokyo Game Show, which will take place during September 18-21.

Spencer was asked if there is any chance that the games presented at the show will be available in the west as well. He replied with “Don’t have the lineup set but I’d say the answer is almost certainly yes.” The head of Xbox also mentioned that he is still interested in JRPGs even though they weren’t very successful on the Xbox 360. He did admit that “we probably haven’t tried enough.” Finally, Spencer confirmed that Scalebound is the “unique exclusive title by a Japanese studio” that was teased earlier this year.  He also mentions that he’s very happy to work with Platinum Games, even saying that this will be one of the highlights of Xbox One for him.

Preparations for Gamescom are likely to start any day now and we might see some actual gameplay footage of Scalebound then. However, since this is a Japanese title we think that the important stuff will be saved for the Tokyo Game Show. We’ll keep you up to date as soon as we learn something new so stay tuned.
