Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel could come to next generation consoles
The next Borderlands game may well release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as other platforms. Speaking on a gaming television show Tony Lawrence and Matt Armstrong discussed the upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and explained why they were concentrating on bringing the title to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. According to Armstrong, the franchise director for Gearbox, the developer thought it would be unfair to make players have to buy new consoles in order to play the game. He explained: “Moving it on to next-gen and requiring people to buy new hardware to play the middle entry in a trilogy feels a little disingenuous and we sort of want to respect that.”
Meanwhile Lawrence confirmed that although Gearbox had only confirmed that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel would only be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, it was possible it could later see a release on the latest consoles. “I guess we’re full on developing the PS3, 360 and PC game,” said Lawrence. “All the Borderlands 2 players are playing on those consoles. That’s the choice they’ve got. So we want to reward those guys. If fans say ‘hey, we’d really like this on a next-gen console’, well, we’ll think about that, but right now we’re concentrating on the consoles we know.”
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the latest game in the Borderlands series. Built in the same engine as Borderlands 2 it sees players take the role of new protagonists who have previously featured in the series. The story involves the rise of Handsome Jack to power on Pandora. Although it will feature much of the same gameplay mechanics as in previous games, it will also introduce several new elements such as anti-gravity. It is due to release in October.
Another Borderlands title is also known to be under development. Tales from the Borderlands is a new game being made by Telltale Games. Set after Borderlands 2, it follows many of Telltale’s previous creations in being a point and click adventure game that will release in several individual episodes.
