The Sony Xperia Z3 gets leaked online, first images and specs appear

After the high-end Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z2, there was little doubt Sony would bring a new member into the Z family. The Sony Xperia Z3 was more or less a given, and has been confirmed. The phone has also been leaked in China it seems, and the Xperia Blog was generous enough to provide with some images and translations. Thus, we get a first glimpse at the upcoming Sony flagship, in all it’s wonder. Below you can see the images in question, showing off a similar looking Xperia Z3. The most notable difference is that phone’s size, and the more rounded edges.

Now, here’s thing thing – the Sony Xperia Z2 didn’t really do well in terms of sales. This is by no means the fault of the phone, but rather a culmination of circumstances, such as the lack of proper carrier support for the phone, as well as modest marketing campaigns and of course, heavy competition from HTC, Samsung and Apple. In all honesty, the Xperia Z2 could easily match the Samsung Galaxy S5, but without proper marketing and a carrier to promote it as it should be promoted, the phone simply didn’t get picked off the shelves enough. That, along with the hefty price tag, of course.

The Sony Xperia Z3 won’t be a revolutionary phone given the context. It will however improve upon its predecessor and try to establish a foothold in a brutally competitive market. The Xperia Z3 is said to come with a 5.2 inch screen, although it’s unclear if it will be a full HD one like the Z2 sported, or a QHD one like we’ve seen in the LG G3. Hardware wise, it seems the Sony Xperia Z3 (model number L55t) will feature a Snapdragon 805 CPU (a minor boost over the previous 801), Android KitKat 4.4.4, a stronger battery and possibly a reworked UI. An Adreno 330 GPU will take care of graphical needs, while the well-known high-quality 20.7 MP camera will be making a return. This is pretty much all we know about the phone right now, but Sony will likely reveal more at IFA this year.
