Activision will not release Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on the Wii U

Michael Condrey, co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, the developer of the Xbox One, PS4 and PC version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare confirmed that there won’t be a Wii U version of the game. Condrey stated that this is Activision’s decision and that they are currently focusing on the other consoles. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are being made by High Moon Studios.

Activision’s decision is curious considering that the previous two Call of Duty Games, “Black Ops II” and “Ghosts”, both had Wii U releases and were top selling games. This is the second publisher that avoids major releases on Nintendo’s console. Ubisoft has already declared that Watch Dogs is the last mature game they will release on the Wii U. Once the strongest competitor on the consoles market, nowadays Nintendo seems like it just can’t find a way to stand out from the crowd. The Wii U was the first next generation console, released in November 2012. Since then, it only managed to sell 6.6 million units, a low number compared to the Playstation 4, which sold over 10 million consoles in nine months.

“Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” is the first game in the three-year development cycle. Activision announced that each of the three developers involved has three years to work at their game before release. Therefore, this year’s game will be made by Sledgehammer Games, next year will be Treyarch’s turn and in 2016, the CoD addition will be made by Infinity Ward. Through giving developers an extra year to work on their game, Activision ensures fans of the franchise that the new additions will feature even more impressive visuals and better gameplay.

“Advanced Warfare” is made using a brand new engine, according to Sledgehammer Games. The developer states that they had to make the game from scratch because, due to the future setting, it needed to be completely different from its predecessors. The game will be released on Novemver 4 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and it will cost around $80.
