OPPO N1 might be getting a successor

The OPPO N1 is a phablet which stands out from the crowd with its rotating 20 MP rear and 13 MP front camera and 5.9 inch Full HD display, aside from its $300 price tag. The N1 was launched in September 2013, so we feel we’re ready for a successor, and OPPO might be in agreement with us.

Since the announcement of the OPPO N1, the Chinese OEM has released the N1 mini, Find 7 and Finda handsets, all of them with very attractive specs and prices. The OPPO Find 7 was the most outstanding of them all, being another $500 flagship rivaling the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2. The OPPO N1 on the other hand, was the selfie-phone fit for all, packing a quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz, Android Jelly Bean 4.2 (upgraded since) with an Adreno 320, 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.

The OPPO N1 falls in the category of mid-range phablets because its processing speed and memory do leave room for improvement and it seems as though the company has finally decided to act on the N1 upgrade possibility. OPPO has released a teaser/invite for an October unveiling event, detailing… you got that right: nothing. No details about the event were released by the company, but insiders from an Asian OPPO faction might have hinted that the company is preparing an OPPO N1 successor.

Allegedly, the new flagship will be a compact headset with an even better screen, possibly a Snapdragon 801 or 805 CPU and a better GPU, dubbed the OPPO N3. The N1 might also have improved camera features, not that it’s in need of many and overall up to date hardware. The October launch of the N3 is likely because it comes at a time when HTC is preparing the HTC Eye selfie-phone, Samsung will release the Gear S and the Galaxy Note 4 on the market. OPPO has been known to adjust its flagship prices to the preference of the users, meaning that powerful phones rivaling flagships sold for prices a quarter lower than their flagship counterparts.

The Note 4 will sell for about $800, so if the OPPO N3 comes as a Note 4 competitor in October, we might just end up admiring an over-the-top Chinese device with a $500 price tag. Nothing has been confirmed, yet, and these are just theories about what OPPO might be preparing for us. The company didn’t disappoint with the Find 7 flagship and we hope it won’t disappoint with the N3 phablet either. We will find out more later, when we get an exact date and maybe a theme for the OPPO show in October.
